What they do and how they work
Enviroplugs® are adapters and power strips that plug into standard mains sockets and into which plug TVs, set-top boxes, games consoles, hi-fi units and chargers for mobile phones, electric toothbrushes, laptop computers or anything else with a battery charged from the mains.
Enviroplugs® use patent pending technology and work in three ways:
- they monitor the power use of charging devices and when a significant drop in load is detected, the supply is disconnected
- they learn the standby signal sent from a remote control and when detected, disconnect (or reconnect) appliances
- they listen for a 10 minute period of silence and when heard, disconnect sound systems, reconnecting when close proximity movement is detected
The result is a dramatic reduction in wasted energy and lower electricity bills. According to the Energy Saving Trust, the average house wastes £37 a year – or 10% of the total bill – leaving appliances in standby mode.
