Ivan Darby
Ivan is an IT consultant working in the professional information industry. Formerly a director of legal publisher Butterworths, Ivan’s team launched a suite of CD-ROM titles and many profitable web based information services. A software company Ivan co-founded in 1988 was sold to Reed Elsevier in 1996, so he is used to starting companies from scratch and developing them into market-leading pioneers.
Ivan had the idea for Enviroplug in September 2006.
Martin Gibbons
Martin is a design engineer with some 20 years experience of running his own company, providing clients such as GlaxoSmithKline and a leading Formula 1 racing team with high quality design, prototyping and engineering services. Over the years, Martin has been involved with projects as diverse as gantry and staging structures for the film industry, to waterproof flat screen TV systems for the domestic and commercial market.
Together, Ivan and Martin developed the concepts for Enviroplug products, created prototypes and managed to progress from initial idea to first order in less than a year.
Ivan's philosophy is compelling: "Why are we doing it? To make money obviously, but also because we have a passion about leaving a legacy for our children and grandchildren: a planet as beautiful as the one we inherited from earlier generations and have a duty to safeguard for the future. We can’t stop progress and we don’t want to make life harder than it has to be, but we should use technology to preserve the planet’s limited resources if we can."
